Trump just thanked the Russian President Vladimir Putin for his order of 775 American diplomats to leave the country. Our president said that this allowed the US government to “cut down our payroll”.
At his golf club in Bedminster, N.J. Trump told the reporters “I want to thank him because we’re trying to cut down our payroll and as far as I’m concerned I’m very thankful that he let go of a large number of people because now we have a smaller payroll. There’s no real reason for them to go back. I greatly appreciate the fact that we’ve been able to cut our payroll of the United State. We’re going to save a lot of money.”
Last month the Russian President announced that the US diplomatic mission in Russia had to cut their staff by 755 personnel. Putin also said that his government lost their patience that the relationship with America was going to improve.
His decision comes after our Congress passed overwhelming new sanctions that targeted Russia, Iran and North Korea. Last week, Trump reluctantly signed the penalties into law.
The US intelligence community prompted the sanctions against Russia. That’s because they concluded that the Kremlin wanted to interfere in the 2016 US presidential elections and to swing the race in favor of Trump.
Thus far, Putin has denied that his government had been involved in any meddling efforts.
